PURTATA CULTURAL ASSOCIATION
"HORA" SINGING AND DANCING GROUP
UNGHENI, MURES COUNTY, ROMANIA
BRIEF HISTORY
"HORA" Singing and Dancing Group was established on August 1st 2003. upon the initiative of Ungheni City Council and Mayor COVRIG IOAN,
with the coming and employment by the City Mayor of Mr. ILIE DINU ILIES as the cultural referent, a man with vast experience in the field.
From year to year the number of members increased and with it were diversified and enriched the repertoire and not least the material props, especially the costumes.
The city of UNGHENI is located approximately in the center of Transylvania, area rich in popular traditions and customs. The fact that the area had been inhabited by several ethnic
groups - Romanians, Hungarians, Germans, Gypsies etc. led to the diversification of both musical and choreographic folklore.
Upon the beginning of year 2012, "HORA" Singing and Dancing Group is made up of two sections, by age: young children between 8-14 years and 15-25 years, which totals about 80 people.
Each year we organize folk dance classes for children and young people, and Sundays for the people over 30 years,
whether former dancers with wives or couples willing to exercise and learn the folk dance secrets.
The repertoire of the Group is mainly inspired from Transylvania - female dances, maiden dances, mixed dances, Romanian dances, Hungarian dances and German dances (Mures Valley,
Niraj Valley, Tarnavelor Valley, Transylvania Plain, Maramures, Bistrita area, Codru area, and even Moldavia).
The Group is composed of a female vocal group, 4 singers of popular music graduates of Arts Popular School. On some dance performances the singers are accompanied by a folk music
band of 4 instrumentalists (violin, brace, bass, tarogato) with whom we collaborate, and the rehearsals and some shows we perform with recorded music.
Over the 9 years of existence "HORA" Group has performed over 250 shows, in the county and abroad, participated to over 25 national festivals and 8
international festivals (Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy).
Our goal is to keep alive the flame of our beautiful folklore, to recruit as many talented young people as possible, who want to practice this kind of art, to improve our repertoire and the material props, all leading to the well deserved applause we receive from spectators and professionals.
